| General Introduction: | |||
| Offered
with a “Clear Water Guarantee” (see details elsewhere) the Cloverleaf
range of Ultraviolet Clarifiers have many unique design advantages that
make them the finest and safest unit available on the market today. Only
the Cloverleaf UV incorporates a highly efficient spiral water flow for
maximum exposure, and the latest electronic technology is used to
provide the unit with low power usage. The
range of models (from 8 to 864 watt) all benefit from being easily
installed into any filtration system using universal inlet & outlet
– i.e. inside dia 1.5” standard waste, Key Terrain, Hunter, Osma, or
Polypipe. The outside diameter takes pressure pipe coupling. All units
are supplied complete with a set of stepped universal hosetails ranging
from 0.5” to 1.50” inches. The full Cloverleaf range have naturally been
designed for ease in replacing all major components, thus ensuring a
long lifetime. All Cloverleaf UVs are IP55 protected. All Cloverleaf UV Clarifiers make use of quality Germicidal lamps with a specification wavelength of 254nm (nanometres) - also known as UV-C or shortwave. This range is proven to be the most effective in germicidal applications, for further details on performance CLICK HERE. Warnings: (1) Never look directly at a UV lamp whilst switched on as this can cause severe damage to the eyes. (2) All pond related electrical devices should be adequately protected via an RCD unit.

| The Benefits Of UV Clarifiers: | |||
|
Single cell algae forming green water are not just unpleasant to look at, but at the same time contribute to lowering the “kh” value which is so important to fish health, and to the nitrification process within the filter system. Algae also contribute towards lowering oxygen levels, whilst meanwhile increasing “ph” levels – both of which are not desirable. The use of Ultra Violet is the safest of international techniques for obtaining clear water, and unlike many chemicals detrimental effects or pollution is impossible. In addition general plant and pond life are unaffected with a UV. The actions of ultra violet light onto single cell algae does not actually kill them, but converts the algae DNA structure to the point where they flocculate together, and thus form larger particles which will not so easily pass through the mechanical filter mediums. The amount of sunlight which the pond receives is the biggest of factors in the promotion of algae, and for such reasons the selected size of a UV unit should take such environmental aspects into account (see UV Calculation Page). |

Following on from
the great success of our Standard Stainless Steel UV clarifiers,
Cloverleaf have taken technology one further step towards perfection in
now the high performance Smartstart Stainless
Steel UV, which through design and build quality offers numerous
advantages to the fastidious pond keeper. Regarding the question of ballast units degrading in performance
over the years, Cloverleaf’s Smartstart. is the solution. As special factory
orders, larger Smartstart units will be available up to a massive
12 bar (12 lamp) 864 watt. The efficiency of Smartstarts
are such that the lamp wattage can afford to be reduced. As an example a
72watt “Smartstart” is equivalent or better than 90watts in a
standard stainless steel unit.
Smartstart is the future - but available now. |

The Smartstart 24 Watt model makes
use of a single germicidal Smarstart lamp. This unit is suitable for
ponds up to 1,800 gallons (8100 litres) based on full sun exposure.
With many small garden ponds
having
capacities from 750 to 1500 gallons this unit will be ideal for
pond keepers, and at a very competitive price not much different than “some” plastic
bodied UV’s on the market, it will surely be reviewed as highly
desirable. |

The Smartstart 48 Watt model makes
use of 2 No 24 watt germicidal Smarstart lamps, with the 72
Watt model making use of 2 No 36 watt germicidal Smartstart lamps. The 48 watt model is suitable for ponds up to 3,000 gallons (13500 litres), with the 72 watt model being suitable for ponds up to a maximum of 7,000 gallons (31500 litres) based on full sun exposure. It is believed that the 48 watt model will prove to be immensely popular, and if you wish, it is easily upgradable at a later date to a 72 watt version, simply by changing the lamps for a larger size.

The Smartstart 144 Watt Twin Bar
model makes use of 4 No 36 watt germicidal Smartstart lamps.
This superb unit is suitable for ponds up to 9,000 gallons (40500
litres) based on full sun exposure. This model will also appeal to those
with problematic smaller ponds where conventional plastic
bodied UV's have failed to perform the task at hand to a satisfactory
standard. NOTE: |

This cutaway diagram typically illustrates construction, together with the design concept of inducing a unique spiral water flow – thus exposing the algae cells to a longer period in contact with the UV rays, but without significantly reducing water flow rates. All Cloverleaf Ultra Violet Clarifiers are manufactured and conform to BS EN 60335-2-55 1993, and to BS EN 60335-1-55 1988, and comply to the Low Voltage Directive (Safety). |

| SSmartstart "Standard " Plastic Body UV Clarifiers | |||
![]() |
Our new range of ( U/V stabilised) plastic bodied Ultra Violet clarifiers are the most competitively priced on the market today. They use the same energy saving, more ecologically sound “Smartstart” technology as that used on our stainless steel models. They also use up to 25% less energy to run than normal U/Vs with around 9,000 hours of life in the ultra violet bulb. Having a constant light output, unlike a linear tube, and because of the highly efficient electronic control, not only do they cost less to run, but also cost less to maintain Combine all these advantages with the competitive purchase price, and we can honestly say, these units are “Simply The Best" |
